30 Years of Punk

It's 30 years since the Sex Pistols first played. It's 30 years since one of the most influential musical movements since Elvis' hips. It's 30 years since the last real youth rebellion spat in the face of authority.

And I'm ranting about wheelie bins....fight the power man...now where did I put my coco?

You're showing your age. I think house music and the whole rave scene did its bit to spit in the face of authority - more so than the punks even. Mark

whoooa there thats fighting talk that is, let me just put down my zimmer frame:)

I'll agree that in the early days of house etc there was a strong anti-establishment lets do it right here ethos. And it does often get overlooked in the nostalgia industry that is the media. The problem was that as it quickly mushroomed (forgive the pun) that side of it was swamped. Whereas punks attitude carried over into other areas of music that had a social and political agenda the rave scene just became bigger and more commercial.

The real problem, and the one that i detest the most, is that the commercial world has become better at co-opting 'counter culture'.

I want the youth of today to horrify me, I want to be offended by them. Instead now days I just find I pity them becuase they all seem to have become a marketing mans wet dream. They don't want change all they want is more i tunes. I mean French students are out rioting to prevent change.

Wasn't like that in my day.....i thought a war for the likes of you ingrates (well i stayed at home tut tuted a lot about the Argies and the Ruskies). I better go and sit down and put on some nice banging tunes!!!
